African Cities Research Consortium (ACRC)

URAC joined the ACRC team to conduct research in Lilongwe City. The aim of the research project is to generate insights and evidence that can assist in improving the living conditions and services especially for disadvantaged communities. The ACRC study will use city of systems (CoS) and political settlements (PS) analytical approaches and study four key urban development domains of housing, informal settlements, health and nutrition and neighbourhoods economic development. The hope is that this approach can address power, policy and practice sectorial silos and provide the potential to unlock reform. The ACRC which is housed at the Global Development Institute at the University of Manchester is led by Prof Diana Mitlin. The ACRC has engaged several researchers from University of Malawi, Malawi Institute of Management, CCODE and URAC. The Director of URAC has also been designated as the coordinator for the study in Malawi which has a focus on the City of Lilongwe.
